Groups Groups Groups.......

This is the biggest bit of this tutorial - but worth it so keep going - if you get through this it is all plain sailing afterwards.....

Groups of people can share their diary information. You can be very specific about who can see what information on the system by making and joining different groups.

To edit your groups, open the group edit screen by clicking on the groups logo at the bottom of the screen.

There are two main sorts of groups ones that you own and other peoples groups that you are a member of. You can switch between viewing these two group types using the buttons at the top of the screen:

We will now create a new group for your friends:

  • Click the button marked create group.
  • Enter 'Friends' for the group name and make up a password.
  • Click 'OK'.

We will now add someone to this group:

  • Select the group marked Friends from the choice box marked: Current Group
  • Click the add user button. This will bring up a list of users which you can add automatically to your group. This is a list of all users which are in groups which you are currently a member of.
  • Either click on a user and finish, or click on other user at the bottom of this screen.
  • If you want to add someone who is not in this list to your full access group, then you will have to know their user ID and password. Otherwise they will have to join the group themselves.

We will now apply to join someone elses group:

  • Click the button marked Groups I Am In at the top of the screen.
  • Click the botton marked Join new group.
  • Enter the Username and Password of the owner of the group. If you do not know the password they will have to approve you at a later time to join their group.
  • Select the group you wish to join from the pop up window.

There are many other things you can do with groups but for this tutorial that is enough!!!

The important thing is that when you look at diary events marked Public ( like the birthday which you have created ) that you will be able to see the public dates of anyone who shares a group with you. Likewise they will be able to see your public dates - so no more excuses for missing birthdays!!
